What the Logbook Holds
Most state boards and apprenticeship programs want proof of your hours, not just a total. This logbook is built around that: every day gets its own row, and every row gets the details a board or program coordinator may ask about later.
- 12 monthly spreads for on-the-job hours. Each month sits on two facing pages with a row per workday: date, hours, description of work, building type, permit number, supervising electrician and license number, and initials. Room for 360 workdays in all.
- A work-category key (A–I). Nine codes, from layout and raceways to motors, controls and low-voltage systems, so you can record how your hours split across the kinds of work most programs track.
- A monthly sign-off block. Each month closes with a month total, a category tally and your supervising electrician’s signature.
- 12 classroom pages. Classroom (related instruction) hours are logged apart from job hours, with a topics-covered checklist for each month.
- Running totals. A category summary and a monthly roll-up, so your year adds up in one place.
- 4 employer affidavit pages. Hours certified by category, with signature lines and space for a notary if your state requires one.
- Short guide pages up front. Which hours usually count and which don’t, the reporting deadlines that cost apprentices hours, what to do when you change employers, a worksheet for your own state’s numbers, and a “Who to call” page.

Who It’s For
- Apprentices and trainees who want a day-by-day record of their hours that holds up when it’s time to apply for a license.
- Instructors, training coordinators and apprenticeship programs. You’re welcome to print copies for your students or link to this page. There’s nothing to sign up for.
- Anyone changing employers who wants their hours signed off before they leave, while the people who can sign still work with them.
Check Your State’s Rules First
This logbook is a personal record, not an official filing. Many state boards require you to report experience on their own form, completed by your supervising contractor, and some require it to be notarized. Use the logbook to capture hours and signatures as you go, then copy them onto whatever your board asks for. For your state’s requirements, start with our state-by-state licensing guides and confirm with your licensing board.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the logbook really free?
Yes. The PDF is free to download, print and share, and you don’t need to enter an email address to get it.
Will my state accept this logbook?
It depends on your state and program. The logbook is designed to capture the details boards commonly ask for, such as dates, hours, supervising electrician, license number and signatures, but it’s a record, not an official form. Check with your licensing board or program coordinator on how to submit hours.
How many hours does it hold?
One year: 360 daily rows for on-the-job hours, plus monthly classroom pages. A full apprenticeship usually runs several years, so print a fresh copy for each year.
Can I get a printed copy?
Yes. The same logbook is sold as an 8.5 × 11-inch paperback on Amazon. The free PDF and the paperback have the same pages.
